The challenge

Bambini nel Deserto was founded in Modena in 2000 to improve the living conditions of children and their communities in the hardest places: wherever there is a desert, whether of sand, stone or opportunity. Today it has operating structures in Italy, Switzerland, Ukraine and Niger, and more than 500 projects behind it.

When I met the organisation in 2021, its website did not tell that story. It was outdated, and above all:

  • it spoke only one language, for an organisation working across several countries;
  • it did not show the projects and activities that make up its history;
  • it could not collect donations, neither for a specific project nor as a general contribution.

The approach

We built a new site around the organisation's work.

  • A multilingual Multisite. The new site runs on WordPress Multisite with WPML and is available in Italian, English and French.
  • Projects at the centre. The site presents the organisation's projects and activities, so it can tell what it does and what it has achieved.
  • Donations where they matter. We developed the full integration with Stripe, so supporters can give to a single project or make a general donation.
  • Connected to the back office. We integrated the site with the organisation's own system for managing projects and donations.

The outcome

Bambini nel Deserto now has a website that tells its story in three languages, presents its projects and lets supporters choose what to fund, connected to the system the organisation uses to manage its projects and donations.
